What is a Psychotherapist?

psychotherapist is a trained mental health professional who provides talk therapy to help individuals, couples, families, or groups address emotional, behavioral, or psychological challenges. Psychotherapists use evidence-based therapeutic approaches—such as CBT, DBT, solution-focused therapy, trauma-informed care, and more to help clients:

  • Understand thoughts, feelings, and behaviors
  • Develop healthier coping skills
  • Improve relationships
  • Manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health conditions
  • Work through life transitions, stress, or personal growth goals

What Is a Licensed Clinical Substance Abuse Specialist

Licensed Clinical Substance Abuse Specialist (LCAS) is a credentialed professional in North Carolina who specializes in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.

An LCAS is trained to:

  • Provide individual and group substance use counseling
  • Develop treatment plans specific to addiction recovery
  • Conduct clinical assessments and ASAM-based evaluations
  • Deliver evidence-based interventions (MI, CBT-SUD, relapse prevention, psychoeducation)
  • Support harm reduction, recovery planning, and crisis intervention
  • Work in outpatient, residential, recovery, criminal justice, medical, or community settings

LCASs meet rigorous state board standards, including supervised experience, clinical training, ethics requirements, and ongoing continuing education.

How many sessions will it take?

Depending on the service you choose, the number of sessions can vary because every client’s needs and goals are different. We focus on creating a plan that fits your pace, not some one-size-fits-all schedule that never actually works for real humans.

How much is the cost of a consultation?

Costs depend on whether you’re using insurance or choosing to self-pay, since each plan and service type is billed differently. We accept Aetna, BCBS, and MedCost, and we can walk you through what your coverage looks like before you ever sit on a couch or start panicking about paperwork.
